Launch of the Project for Environmental, Social, and Road Safety Impact Assessment on the M3 route
Starting from September 1, 2025, the environmental, social, and road safety impact assessment process will be launched for route M3 (Chișinău – Comrat – Giurgiulești – border with Romania).
The evaluation concerns Phase 2, with a total length of 70.9 km, divided into four lots.
- Lot 1: Chișinău Airport – Porumbrei (34.4 km), rehabilitation.
- Lot 2: Porumbrei – Cimișlia (19 km), rehabilitation and expansion from 2 to 4 lanes.
- Lot 3: Cimișlia – Comrat (12 km), rehabilitation.
- Lot 4: Giurgiulești – bypass and connections to border points (6.2 km), construction and capital repair.
Objectives of the study:
- Identification and assessment of potential negative impacts on the environment and communities.
- Road safety audit.
- Verification of compliance with national and international legislation and EBRD policies.
- Establishing measures for prevention and mitigation.
- Supporting the sustainability of the project.
Financing and implementation:
The project is funded by the European Union through the Eastern Partnership Investment in Connectivity (EPIC) and Sustainable Infrastructure Fund programs. Implementation is carried out by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The direct beneficiaries are the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) and the National Road Administration (AND).
This project contributes to the integration of Moldova's infrastructure into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), a strategic objective of the Mobility Strategy 2030, and will improve connectivity with Romania and Ukraine.
