Fire statistics from recent years show that in the Republic of Moldova there is an increased number of uncontrolled burnings as a result of land cleaning activities, as well as the illegal ignition of dry vegetation.

In some cases, citizens burn stubble, household waste or dry vegetation without ensuring supervision, in the absence of fire protection measures, in windy conditions or by placing the piles meant to be destroyed by fire near residential sheds, animal shelters or fodder, which leads to the rapid spread of fire to households, their annexes, as well as forested areas, causing major damage and having a negative impact on the environment.

To avoid the occurrence of uncontrolled fires during the given period, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs addresses a call to citizens to follow specific fire prevention measures:

  • Do not use open fire in places with a risk of fire and during windy weather.
  • Do not use open flame at a distance of less than 50 meters from buildings, installations, materials, or flammable substances.
  • Do not leave an open fire unattended.
  • Do not throw cigarette butts, lit matches, or smoldering materials into dry vegetation.
  • Respect the established procedure for collecting, storing, and transporting plant waste.
  • Citizens are asked to contact the town halls regarding the scheduling of days and specially designated places for the collection of household waste and dry vegetation in the locality.
  • Constantly supervise children and forbid them from playing with sources that could cause fires (matches, lighters, etc.).
  • When detecting fire outbreaks, call the phone number 112 and, if possible, take measures to extinguish the fire, observing safety measures, or leave the place of the fire covering your mouth and nose with a damp cloth.

DEAR CITIZENS! By following fire prevention measures, you protect your life and property.
